A Crush on Book Crush
I think it's official: I have a crush on Book Crush. This is the sort of book I've been looking for for years. It's a reference book recommending tons of other books in all genres and styles, and the recommendations are specifically of books for children and young adults.

Because of the design and layout of the book, I'm still not certain if reading it straight through is the best way to go about doing things, anymore than reading a dictionary or encyclopedia straight through would be. You can do it, but after a while the information starts to mush together and your retention drops dramatically. Of course, a straight read-through will familiarize you with the content under each of the different categories, even if you know you aren't going to remember a third of the material by the end.

If you work with children and teens in any way, including being one, or if you are just enamored of the literature written for them, I definitely suggest looking this book up. The format of Book Crush makes it easy to find recommendations for different age and interest groups, and nearly all the books mentioned come with micro book talks. It's an excellent place to start if you're looking for recommendations or looking to give recommendations.

In more general news...nothing much happened today. Including writing, unfortunately. I'm thinking I need to rethink how I'm going about writing. The "start at the beginning and go to the end" method doesn't seem to be working for me the way I would like to, and as a result I'm getting frustrated and perfectionistic rather than just writing.

Things I did today in which I am well pleased: Cleaned up the kitchen after dinner. Went through a big pile of manual entries at work.

Things that make me happy: book recommendations, Scrabble
